Club Coach
Our club coach is Gemma Gibson. As you will see from Gemma’s bio below she is a highly experienced sailor.
Coaching programs run either on water, or if we cannot get afloat, on land. No matter what the weather brings there will be activity on Friday evenings.
Downs SC is also fortunate to have assistance of a range of support Coaches for specialist projects to help develop members’ expertise.
The Club Coaches provide:
- a key role in Friday Sailing which helps continuity week on week
- specialist ladies training especially prior to the Ladies Race
- “getting organised” guidance & support on some Sundays
- private lessons by special arrangement and request
Special requests for support can also be put to – training@downssailingclub.co.uk
Gemma Gibson
Hi all, I’m Gemma.
I’m one of those incredibly lucky people who don’t remember learning to sail, the same as I don’t remember learning to walk and am a 3rd generation sailor.
I have sailed a massive variety of boats, from Optimists, Toppers and Mirrors, through to racing GP14’s, 29ers and RS200, but my favourite has to be the Miracle.
I have crewed competitively for my mum since I was 6, starting at club level, through to open meetings, area championships and National Championships.
I started coaching when I was 23 and have had the chance to work alongside some amazing people including the Paralympic Sailing Sonar Team.
I met my husband at a National Championships 14 years ago and continue to race against him (and work alongside him) now.
